Set high on a hill outside of town, The Atlantic Inn is truly a unique and quiet location to savor the delights of Block Island. Looking out from Inn’s wraparound veranda, guests are treated to breathtaking views of Old Harbor and the ocean beyond.

The Atlantic Inn first opened its doors in 1879, as an inn and has served in that capacity or as a boarding house continuously since that time.  The inn contains 21 rooms and welcomes you with a smiling and eager to please staff.  Each room is different and individually decorated with antiques, plus a private bath and telephone.

The expansive grounds are dotted with flowerbeds and paths that are perfect for peaceful strolls. Guests can enjoy invigorating games of croquet or tennis and there is even a horseshoe pit for those up to the challenge.  Children are welcome.

The Inn’s fine dining restaurant and Executive Chef offer a reservation only dining experience, which focuses on presentation and timing.  The multi-course meals (items may change daily) include: choice of first course (appetizer, soup or salad), intermezzo (a delicious palate-cleanser such as lemon/lavender granite), main course and a dessert course.   The meal and service are unique on Block Island.  The meal is meticulously prepared daily utilizing many herbs and vegetables right from the inn’s raised bed gardens.  Ambiance abounds and is made more romantic by spectacular sunsets, candlelight, classical music and an unobtrusive staff.  Recently the Inn was voted “The best place to dine in Rhode Island while enjoying a sunset” by Rhode Island Monthly magazine and was honored by a visit from President William Clinton and his family in the ‘97 season.

The Atlantic Inn is about a five-minute walk from Old Harbor where most ferries dock.  Just outside of town are beautiful beaches, 200-foot high bluffs, historic lighthouses, bicycling trails and nature trails.  For fishing enthusiasts the island is heaven.

The 125-year-old Inn is open April through October taking advantage of the mild springs, summer and breathtaking fall seasons.
